What is the essence of a web page?
It’s all about exposing information.
You could say it’s like a 24/7 unmanned store.
Even while you’re sleeping, your server promotes you.
In essence, it’s not so different from Instagram.
So then, why run a web page instead of just using Instagram?
Because it offers far more freedom.
You can manage a customer database (DB) to understand people’s preferences,
which lets you offer better services and products, and even connect that to recommendation systems.
You can also use it to send alerts about new updates or products,
creating an interactive service between seller and customer.
Even with the same product, the choice of wording and keywords
can significantly impact how much it sells.
Moreover, with techniques like A/B testing, you can intentionally show different versions of your website to different users
and see which design performs better.
A/B testing
It may appear unethical—like treating people as if they were monkeys in an experiment, testing whether they prefer bananas or pineapples.
Yet through this very technology, companies like Google, YouTube, Netflix, and Instagram have accumulated vast wealth and gained influence over our minds.
Can you confidently say that the knowledge you trust, the food you crave, or the stocks you want to buy are completely unrelated to the information you've been exposed to?
This is IT—Information Technology.
And in today’s world, information is the most powerful and dangerous force of all.
People see the world the way they want to see it.
They live as though the world they know is the only world that exists.
"Every man takes the limits of his own field of vision for the limits of the world." - Arthur Schopenhauer
There are countless ways to create a web page.
You could simply use a WordPress blog, or platforms like Wix, Squarespace, or Notion.
I prefer creating a web page using Claude.AI or Cursor.AI and then linking it to GitHub Pages.
Alternatively, you can also use HugoBlox to build a personal portfolio site.
Many people misunderstand that websites—and apps, for that matter—should be means, not ends. They are tools for promotion, communication, or value delivery, not the ultimate goal themselves.
Similarly, money should serve as a means to achieve a meaningful purpose, not be pursued as a purpose in itself.
Spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on a website or app through platforms like Upwork or Fiverr doesn’t guarantee success. These tools are not magic solutions.
What truly matters is securing a few solid clients or customers who believe in your product or service. Once that’s done, earning money becomes much easier—and you may find you don’t even need to spend much on advertising or promotions at all.
In other words, a web page is not some kind of magical tool.
At its core, it’s not much different from the old practice of putting your name, phone number, and email on a business card.
Then came posters and flyers to promote lectures or events.
After that, came websites.
And eventually, even academic papers can serve a similar role.
Each is simply a medium of communication—an evolving tool to share who you are and what you offer.
Ultimately, the value lies in how information is exposed—and how credible that information appears.
The reason why celebrities and influencers charge tens of millions of won for a single advertisement,
and why they don’t promote just any product,
is because they don’t want to tarnish their reputation.
Their credibility is their capital—and once lost, it's hard to regain.
Like a music, follow your heart when creating a webpage.
There’s no fixed format when it comes to building a web page.
However, much like a sonata in music follows a certain structure—exposition, development, and recapitulation—
A well-designed web page benefits from having a clear, foundational structure.
That doesn’t mean every website must look the same.
Rather, it's about maintaining a basic flow:
- A compelling introduction (Who are you? What’s the value?)
- Core content (Your product, service, or message)
- A strong call to action (What should the visitor do next?)
Within this structure, you can—and should—add your emphasis.
Maybe it's an eye-catching visual, a bold headline, or a featured testimonial.
Just as composers highlight different melodies or themes within the sonata form,
You can guide attention to what matters most on your page,
all while ensuring the overall experience remains coherent and intuitive.
Form is not a limitation—it’s the canvas on which your uniqueness stands out.
Trust your instincts and intuition.
That is the answer.
